Obituary for Herman Wade Holz

Herman Wade Holz was born on September 6, 1928 in Kendricktown, Mo. He was the son of Fred and Ruby Holz. He lived the majority of his life in Carthage, Missouri. He loved Carthage and growing up and living there.

Herman joined the Army, at age 17, after graduating from Carthage Senior High School in 1946. He is a veteran of WW2 and the Korean War. He married his longtime Sweetheart, Velma Timm on January 23, 1949. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this year.

His main occupation was being a Terminal Manager for trucking companies. His longest tenure was with Campbell 66. Herman loved spending time with his family. He was so proud of all of them. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. They loved his sense of humor and his zest for life. His favorite activities were fishing and gardening. His free time was spent serving his Nazarene Church in Carthage where he was involved as a Board Member and was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. He also went on many Mission Trips around the globe to share Jesus with others. He was a member of the Gideon Society in Carthage for over 50 years. He was also very active in the Crisis Center in Carthage. His heart belonged to Jesus and He wanted to help people any way he could.

Herman is survived by his wife, Velma Timm Holz; his children, Steve Holz and Cathy Holz Schmidt (Roger); four grandchildren: Kristen Schmidt Rummerfield (Kenny), Brian Holz, Nathan Schmidt (Morgan) and Blake Holz (Clare) and Great Grandchildren Maverick, Krew and another boy to be born in April. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruby Butts and his brother Fred C Holz.

Herman left this earth to be with Jesus at 4:30 AM Sunday morning March 8, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Long Term Care Facility in Olathe, KS. His Celebration Service will be held Friday, March 13 at 10 am at Carthage First Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be Thursday, March 12 at from 6-7 pm, also at the church. In lieu of flowers, Herman requested that money be sent to Gideon’s International to buy Bibles to be distributed all over the world.
