Mary Martha “Brownie” Cook passed away on November 3, 2019 in Dallas, Texas at age 97. She was born October 14, 1922 in Cassville, Missouri to the late Key and Margaret Browning. She graduated from the University of Arkansas where she met and married the late Charles M. Cook. After graduation, they moved to Carthage, Missouri, where they were happily married for 59 years. She worked as a teacher and Jasper County Public Administrator. She is survived by three children, Chuck Cook of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Martha Anderson of Dallas, Texas and Laura Harrington of Lynnfield, Massachusetts; one daughter-in-law, Norma Cook; two sons-in-law, Dennis Boyd and John Harrington; and one sister-in-law, Carol Browning. In addition, she is survived by 5 grandchildren, Charles Albritton Cook, John Hobbs Cook, William Noe Cook, John Charles Staggs and David Weston Anderson; three great-grandchildren, Avery, Zoe and Betty Grace Cook; and one great-great-grandchild, Cheston Tyler Carmen. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Hessee Key Browning.

Brownie was involved in many activities: PEO, The Chi Omega Sorority, and The Bridge and Shakespeare Club. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carthage. Her interests were varied, and she and Charles enjoyed traveling the world. Those of us that knew her will never forget how sweet and kind she was and how lucky we were to have her love in our lives.
